Jolotundo: A Casual Modern Display Font for Creative Projects

There’s something about starting a new brand project that feels like opening a blank canvas. I was recently working on a boutique identity for a handmade soap company, and I needed a font that felt both personal and professional. That’s when I stumbled upon Jolotundo, a cute handwritten display font from Script Amp. It wasn’t just the visual appeal that caught my eye—it was the way it seemed to whisper, “This is real, this is crafted.”

The Visual Character of Jolotundo

Jolotundo has a distinct personality. Its strokes are soft yet deliberate, giving off a sense of warmth and approachability. The letterforms have a slight irregularity, as if they were written by hand with care, making it feel more human than mechanical. This subtle imperfection is what makes it stand out in a world of perfectly aligned sans serifs and rigid serifs.

The font carries a mood that's friendly and modern, which fits well with brands that want to feel connected but still contemporary. Whether you're designing a logo, packaging, or social media post, Jolotundo adds a touch of authenticity without sacrificing style.

Testing Jolotundo in Real Branding Work

I tested Jolotundo across several branding elements. First, I used it on a logo concept for the soap brand. It worked beautifully as a headline, adding a personal touch that matched the brand’s ethos of natural ingredients and handmade care. Next, I placed it on a brand board alongside other fonts—serif, sans serif, and script—and it stood out as the perfect accent for casual messaging.

On a packaging mockup, Jolotundo looked great on product labels. It didn’t overpower the design but added enough character to make the label feel unique. When I applied it to a business card, it gave the impression of a small, local shop rather than a faceless corporation. For a website header, it felt right at home on a hero section, especially when paired with a clean sans serif for body text.

In social media layouts, Jolotundo brought a sense of playfulness to promotional posts. It worked particularly well on Instagram, where its whimsical nature complemented lifestyle photography and behind-the-scenes content.

When to Use (and Avoid) Jolotundo

Jolotundo shines best as a display font or headline font. It’s not ideal for long paragraphs of body text due to its handwritten nature, which can reduce readability at smaller sizes. If your project requires formal corporate use or involves dense text blocks, consider pairing it with a more structured typeface.

However, for short phrases, logos, brand tags, or decorative accents, Jolotundo excels. It’s also a great choice for creative projects such as mugs, bags, and photography overlays, where a touch of personality enhances the design.

Font Pairing and Practical Tips

To balance Jolotundo’s casual charm, I found that pairing it with a modern sans serif like Montserrat or a classic serif like Playfair Display created a nice contrast. This combination works well for brand identities that want to maintain professionalism while still feeling warm and inviting.

Before using Jolotundo in final client work, it’s essential to test it across different mediums—print, web, and digital displays. Check how it looks in various sizes and color contrasts to ensure it remains legible and impactful. Also, always review the commercial font licensing to confirm it’s appropriate for your intended use, whether that be packaging, templates, or print-on-demand products.

Finally, take advantage of any included styles, alternates, or ligatures if available. These features can add extra depth to your designs and help you tailor the font to specific branding needs.

Jolotundo is more than just a font—it’s a design element that tells a story. Whether you're crafting a brand identity, enhancing a product label, or adding flair to a digital asset, this cute handwritten display font from Script Amp can bring a unique, modern edge to your work. Just remember to use it thoughtfully, and it will elevate your designs in ways you never expected.
